When Calm Feels Like Numbness

Have you ever felt that eerie, weightless calmness? It’s not the peaceful kind that soothes you on a quiet morning with a cup of tea. It’s a numb calmness — a strange hush that settles in when life around you is whirling like a tornado.

You look around and see deadlines creeping closer, responsibilities piling up like heavy clouds before a storm. You know, logically, that you should be scared, or at least anxious. But instead, you feel… nothing. Just an odd, heavy stillness in your mind.

There’s so much to do — if you don’t act, the gentle breeze will turn into a hurricane, sweeping away everything in its path. Yet you find yourself standing still, as if your feet are stuck in wet cement. Your mind feels empty, as though it has pressed a silent pause button.

In these moments, life feels slow, almost dreamlike. People talk around you, laughter echoes, problems scream for attention — but they feel distant, like echoes from another world. You move through your days with a softness, an almost ghost-like presence, questioning why you can’t feel joy, fear, or even excitement the way you once did.

Perhaps it’s the mind’s way of protecting itself, a fragile survival mode when everything becomes too much to process. Or maybe it’s a gentle reminder to stop, breathe, and truly feel again — even if it means facing the storms waiting at the door.

Because even numbness is a message. A quiet knock from your soul asking you to listen. To remember that while the world rushes on, you’re still here, and you deserve to feel alive — beyond the calm, beyond the numbness.

I felt like that... ☕
